Potential Bond Extension
Safe, Modern Schools Without Increasing Tax Rates
Larkspur-Corte Madera School District (LCMSD) is a top-performing K–8 district that ranks in the top 10% statewide for student achievement.
Aging Larkspur-Corte Madera Schools Need Repairs and Upgrades
LCMSD recently completed a comprehensive Facilities Strategic Plan for 2026-2036, which identified critical repair and upgrade needs across school facilities, classrooms, and labs. Funding is needed to address student and school security, aging roofs, electrical, plumbing, and heating/cooling systems to ensure safe, modern learning environments that meet today’s education and safety standards.
Local Funding to Support Safe, Modern Schools
The LCMSD Board of Education is considering placing a local school improvement bond extension measure on the ballot in June 2026 to keep students safe and maintain quality education. Without increasing existing tax rates, the measure could provide up to $44 million in locally controlled school funding to:
- Improve student and school safety with upgraded emergency and security systems, perimeter fencing, and more
- Repair or replace deteriorating roofs, HVAC, electrical, and plumbing systems
- Update classroom technology systems and labs for science, technology, engineering, art, music, and math
- Implement sustainability and resilience projects, including improving water and drainage systems
- Repair and upgrade sports and athletic facilities, ensuring accessibility for students with disabilities
Passing a school improvement bond extension would also help LCMSD qualify for up to $7.9 million in state matching funds that would otherwise go to other school districts.
Fiscal Accountability and Local Control
- All funds remain under local control for LCMSD schools, and could not be taken by the State or Federal government
- No funds could be used for administrators’ salaries or pensions
- Citizens’ oversight committee, independent audits, and annual public reports of all spending to ensure funds are spent as promised
